Time for a change – choosing “Dusza Chrystusowa”

T

After a few conversations, I came to the conclusion that “Dusza Chrystusowa” will suit me better for the exam. A change of plans? A little, yes. But it’s a good change – more mature and closer to how I actually sing right now.

Why this hymn

“Dusza Chrystusowa” has what I’m looking for at the start of my journey – simplicity of form and depth of meaning. It’s a prayer that doesn’t need embellishments. Every line carries weight and naturally shapes the phrase. It’s also simply beautiful – it rings out with dignity, yet leads into silence. For the singer, that means fewer “show-off” moments and more truth in the voice.

It fits my voice better

This hymn sits in a register where I feel comfortable. The phrasing is logical, it doesn’t force extreme leaps, and with a well chosen key it lets me carry the line calmly. That lets me focus on a resonant, warm tone and clear diction – instead of fighting for every high or low note.

A strong, spiritual message

It’s a text that carries itself. It has a sense of gravity and inner strength – exactly what I need for the exam. I want the performance to be prayer – not a showcase. “Dusza Chrystusowa” gives space for focus, mindful breathing, and meaning in every word.

Preparation plan

  • Choosing the key – I’ll test two options and pick the one where the middle of my range is most comfortable and intonation is the most stable.
  • Phrase and breath – working on calmly lengthening phrases and breathing to the meaning of the sentence.
  • Diction – shaped so the words carry meaning without forcing volume.
  • Color and resonance – warm, open “a” and “o” no throat tension, with a slight “smile” in the cheeks.

Changing the hymn isn’t a step back, it’s a course correction – so that on the exam day I can show my best self. And that’s exactly what this whole project is about.

The exam is coming up soon – keep your fingers crossed and… see you in the next post.
