Documents, recommendations – the first step towards the organ

D

As it turns out, before I even get to touch a single key as part of my studies, I first need to go through a small paper trail. After reading the regulations of the organist school, I found out that certain documents are required just to be admitted to the course:

  • high school graduation certificate,
  • CV,
  • cover letter,
  • two photos,
  • a letter of recommendation from the parish priest.

Luckily, I already had the first four items prepared – partly from my drawer, partly from my digital archive – so that part went smoothly. The tricky bit was the last one: the recommendation from the parish priest.

And this part wasn’t entirely clear – the regulations don’t specify what exactly such a letter should look like. After talking to the priest, we agreed that it should be a recommendation confirming my involvement in parish life, participation in the liturgy, maybe something about the choir, and a general sense of “being present”. The priest prepared and signed the document – for which I’m truly grateful.

The next step is to contact the organist school and arrange a meeting with the director. All documents must be submitted by June 30 – and that’s my plan. The documents are ready, now it’s just a matter of sticking to the deadline.

See you in the next posts!

I'm focusing on a specific, narrow path - learning to play the organ from scratch. I want to share my experience in a thoughtful and systematic way, making use of available resources without losing my head (or my budget). All of this is to make the journey not only inspiring but also possible for others to follow.
